The Strokes' New Album Is Nearly Complete, Confirms Guitarist Nick Valensi

The Strokes' sixth studio album could arrive by early-2020.

Guitarist Nick Valensi confirmed rumors of the new album in an interview Friday afternoon on Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke.

Valensi was asked if it's true that the band is finished recording the follow-up to 2013's full-length Comedown Machine, what will be their first release since 2016's Future Present Past EP. The guitarist reluctantly confirmed the news.

"Wow, you heard that?" Valensi asked. "Who told you that (laughs)? ... Well, it must be true, then."

The Strokes have performed live only sparingly this year, but a booking agent that works with the band recently claimed they were indeed at work on music.

When pressed for more, Valensi conceded that there is "a strong likelihood" that the album will be released sometime soon.

You can see the exchange in the Facebook Live video embedded above at about the 11:20 mark. The Strokes have made no official announcement regarding the upcoming release.

Valensi was visiting Q104.3 with CRX band mate Darian Zahedi, promoting their band's latest album, Peek.

The Strokes recently announced a New Year's Eve concert close to home in Brooklyn, New York. Get more Strokes information here.
